Upslope Mass Soil Nails, Mesh and Shotcrete

Watch Video Specific aspects: 20,000 year old glaciers formations are now boulders stacked up to 400m high up the slope in several sections. Due to Snowy 2 requiring more lane width for huge plant/equipment, extra widening of the existing single road access track was critical. Engineers consulted with Spec Geo to design the following:

  • Galvanised 38mm hollow bar drilled from 9m to 45m per bolt. A total of 20,000 metres installed.

  • Custom temporary catch fences above each site supplied and installed by SG.

  • Single twist high tensile mesh applied and tensioned to boulders.

  • Coloured shotcrete applied in various sections.

Access: Pre cut single lane benches for all plant and equipment along a heavy utilised access road for construction of the Mighty Snowy 2.

Large Boulder Removal in Remote Location

Watch Video Specific Aspects: A large section of massive sandstone had become loose and fell over 100m below the walking track. However a further 100m3 of boulder remained hung up on or above the public walk way. Spec Geo was commissioned to implement a solution and follow through with the removal of remaining blocks by use of drilling and blasting. A final ripe access groom of face ensured that the area was free of rock fall risk.

Access to site: 20min climb in and out via rope access.
